Holy Cross Mickleham follows the principles of Discovery-Based Inquiry and student-initiated inquiries. This research-based, student-centred inquiry approach supports children to learn in a hands-on, developmentally appropriate way.
Students explore their interests and investigate questions about their world, using a highly structured and intentional approach. The authentic opportunities provide a vehicle for students to learn about themselves, others and the world around them through social interactions, as they build understandings related to concepts and develop skills and dispositions in communication, creativity, problem-solving and critical thinking.
We believe that learning through discovery and student initiated inquiries is engaging, rigorous and allows each individual to have voice, agency and an opportunity to challenge their development of skills and the learner attributes of creativity, collaboration, resilience, self-direction, reflection, respect and courage.
