School News Update – August

Principal, Mark Miatello, is running his very last “Meet the Principal” session tomorrow night (Wednesday 4 August from 6pm). There are only 10 spots remaining for this session so Mark is encouraging any remaining families to take this opportunity with enrolment places filling fast. To book a session click here.

The “Meet the Principal” sessions have been hugely popular with Mark meeting hundreds of families over the past two months. Mark has been pleased to see the level of excitement that exists around Holy Cross’ opening, and has felt very welcomed by the Mickleham community.

Any families who have not had the chance to attend one of the sessions are welcome to contact the school and meet with Mark individually. However, places for 2022 are expected to be fully subscribed so we encourage you to make contact soon if you are hoping to enrol. You can call (03) 7379 5532 or email: principal@hcmickleham.catholic.edu.au.

Introducing the newest member of the Holy Cross team

With construction of our school well on track, we have entered an important new phase of building Holy Cross – building the team behind our school.

Principal Mark Miatello was pleased to be joined this week by our new Administration Manager, Jessica Kendall.

Jessica will be an important support to Mark as together they set up all the systems and processes that will ensure Holy Cross runs efficiently and smoothly, allowing our teachers to better support our students.

Jessica comes to Holy Cross after seven years working in administration for Christ the Priest primary school in Caroline Springs.

Jessica said she had enjoyed her time at Christ the Priest where she had built strong relationships with many families and was looking forward to doing the same at Holy Cross.

“I will bring much energy and enthusiasm to my role and will always give my 100% best to support Mark, our teachers, students and their families,” Jessica said.

“Building a strong team together creates the environment necessary for children to thrive and I am looking forward to sharing this journey with our growing school community.”

Outside of school Jessica is a proud mum to 16-year-old Jake and their two-year-old “baby”, Ash the American Staffordshire terrier. She enjoys developing her garden and improving her desktop publishing skills as a creative outlet.

Mark said he was pleased to welcome Jessica to Holy Cross and was looking forward to her support with the big job of setting up the school administration, enrolment and office processes and services ahead of opening next year.

“Jessica is a great first appointment for our school and we are now busy getting ready to advertise and appoint our teachers who will work together to establish the teaching and learning culture at Holy Cross.”

Teacher appointments

We are currently advertising for our Deputy Principal. Mark is expecting to undertake interviews for that position soon.

Once we have appointed our Deputy Principal, we will then be advertising for the rest of our teaching staff. Mark is looking for teachers who are dedicated to providing an inclusive, rigorous learning environment that challenges and engages young people to grow as passionate learners.

If you know of a passionate educator who is looking for a new challenge, encourage them to get in touch with Holy Cross.

Building Update

Work on our building continues on schedule. The roof has gone on in recent weeks and brickwork is expected to begin shortly to get us to lock-up stage.

Our sports court and driveway are also expected to be sealed soon, so you will see some dramatic changes if you are driving past over the next month.

While all this is happening, Mark is busy working with suppliers on things like uniform design and playground equipment selections. We will have some exciting updates for you on these two things soon.
